Sabaash Naidu

‘Sabash Naidu’ is on the cards, assures Shruti Haasan

It’s a well-known fact that Kamal Haasan and daughter Shruti teamed up for the trilingual comedy film ‘Sabash Naidu’, which was formally announced in 2016. After filming for months, the shooting came to a halt after Kamal Haasan suffered the fracture at his Chennai residence.

After recovering from the accident, Kamal went on to start his political party Makkal Needhi Maiam and has been busy with political commitments. Since then, ‘Sabash Naidu’ has been in the limbo. However, Shruti Haasan has now assured fans that she would start shooting for ‘Sabash Naidu’ soon. In a recent interview, Shruti has clarified that the film is definitely on the cards.

A spin-off of the popular character Balram Naidu from ‘Dasavatharam’, ‘Sabash Naidu’ will be directed by Kamal Haasan himself. The film will mark Shruti’s first film with daddy Haasan, while Akshara Haasan will reportedly work as an assistant director. Also starring Ramya Krishnan, Brahmanandam, Saurabh Shukla and Radha Ravi in pivotal roles, ‘Sabash Naidu’ will have music by maestro Ilaiyaraaja.

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan’s latest outing ‘Vishwaroopam 2’ has opened to mixed response from critics and audience alike. Despite high expectations, the film has turned out to be a damp squib at the box office.

Made in China

Rajkummar Rao, Mouni Roy share first look of Made in China. See it here

Riding high on the success of Stree and Gold, Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy have shared the first look of their upcoming film, Made in China.

Stars Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy have commenced filming of their upcoming film, Made in China. They marked the occasion by sharing the first look of their characters from the film, a comedy meant to capitalise on the growing Chinese box office market.

The tweet shared by both Rajkummar – who is riding on the success of Stree – and Mouni Roy – who made her Bollywood debut opposite Akshay Kumar in Gold – shows their characters, a struggling Gujarati businessman called Raghu and Rukmini, his feisty wife.

Producer Dinesh Vijan, who witnessed firsthand the importance of the Chinese market with his film Hindi Medium, told Mumbai Mirror, “The story of a struggling but ambitious businessman is so relatable and Raj and Mouni have distinct looks that are true to the film’s fabric. The shoot is going well even though we were filming in Ahmedabad’s Old City over the weekend. The gallis are so narrow that cars can’t pass through. The actors had to be ferried to the location, Lakshmi Narayan Pol, quietly in autorickshaws because after Stree, Raj is quite the rage here.”

Speaking about the decision to cast popular TV star Mouni Roy in the film, Vijan had previously told Hindustan Times, “We wanted someone who’d connect with the heartland and Mouni, a typical Indian beauty, has a huge fan following. She has a strong personality but gentle eyes and is a good dancer which is essential for the role as her character has a passion for classical Indian dance having learnt it. She has started working on her Gujarati dialect.”

Under the direction of Gujarati filmmaker Mikhil Musale, the crew will head off to China next month for the second schedule, before finishing up in Mumbai. Made in China has been scheduled for an Independence Day 2019 release. Another film about a small-town couple starting a small business, Sui Dhaaga, starring Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma, will be released on September 28.

Jabariya Jodi

JABARIYA JODI – Sidharth Malhotra gets nostalgic about Hasee Toh Phasee days with co-star Parineeti Chopra

The two played an adorable couple in Hasee Toh Phasee and since then we haven’t got an opportunity to see the onscreen Jodi of Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra on the big screen. But we will soon get a chance to see them together and it will be in Jabariya Jodi. Sidharth, who has already kicked off the film with Pari long time ago, turned nostalgic whilst shooting with the actress and reminisced about the old days.

Well, the proof for the same is the post shared by Sidharth Malhotra. The actor took to Instagram to share this collage of him and Parineeti Chopra during Hasee Toh Phasee days along with another picture of him shooting with the actress for Jabariya Jodi. And going by the picture, we can definitely say that we can’t wait to see them recreate their onscreen chemistry in this fun rom-com.

Sidharth Malhotra shared this picture saying, “Then and now! Celebrating 5 years of #HaseeTohPhasee, and looking ahead to our crazy, energetic, mad journey of #JabariyaJodi. So much has changed, and yet everything is still the same! @parineetichopra.”

However, let us tell you that their characters in both these films are expected to be drastically different. While Sidharth Malhotra played a struggling businessman in Hasee Toh Phasee, he plays a gangster in this forthcoming romantic comedy. On the other hand, Parineeti, who was a scientist in the 2014 film, will be seen as a bold and bindass girl in the Prashant Singh directorial.

Jabariya Jodi, which is expected to be a quirky take on the groom kidnapping which is rampant in North India, is expected to hit the big screens during the summer. The film is scheduled to release on May 17.

Kizie Aur Manny

Sushant Singh Rajput film ‘Kizie Aur Manny’ renamed ‘Dil Bechara’
Mukesh Chhabra’s movie stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi.

Mukesh Chhabra’s Kizie Aur Manny has been renamed Dil Bechara, producer Fox Star Studios announced on Friday. The official adaptation of John Green’s 2012 novel The Fault in Our Stars is headlined by Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi. Chhabra, a well-known casting director for Hindi films, makes his directorial debut with Dil Bechara.

The source novel and the 2014 screen adaptation, about terminally ill cancer patient Hazel who falls in love with an amputee, Augustus, are centred on teenagers. The Hollywood movie, directed by Josh Boone, starred Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.

The Hindi version has music by AR Rahman, and the new title has been inspired by Amitabh Bhattacharya’s lyrics for one of the tracks, a Mumbai Mirror report revealed. Saif Ali Khan is also a part of the cast, and will most probably play the author Peter Van Houten, whose novel features a character who resembles Hazel, the report added.

The production has been dogged by sexual harassment allegations. Chhabra was briefly taken off the project after being accused of harassing unnamed women in 2018. He was reinstated after he was reportedly cleared by an internal inquiry. Sanjana Sanghi denied media reports that she had been harassed by Sushant Singh Rajput on the movie sets. Dil Bechara will be released sometime this year.
