Lady Gaga Just Got a New Tattoo Inspired by A Star Is Born
Lady Gaga got two new tattoos, which she revealed on Instagram on Valentine’s Day.
One is the outline of a rose covering her spine with the words, “la vie en rose,” referencing the iconic song by Edith Piaf. Gaga sings the song in A Star Is Born and performed it during her 2015 Cheek to Cheek tour with Tony Bennett.
The second tattoo is a drawing of the notes G A G A on a musical staff, in honor of her name.
Lady Gaga is flaunting two new tattoos on Instagram. The first is an outline of a rose running the length of her spine with the words, “la vie en rose,” referencing the Edith Piaf song of the same name, which she sings as her character Ally in A Star Is Born. The second is a set of four musical notes that spell out her name, “GAGA.” The ink was done by L.A.-based tattoo artist Daniel Stone, also known as Winter Stone (@winterstone).
“Happy Valentine’s Day,” Gaga captioned the photo of her rose tat. “A tattoo toast to ‘la vie en rose’ by the beautiful @winterstone my spinal cord is now a rose.”
Stone also proudly flaunted his masterpiece on his own Instagram. “I can not express enough the honor it was tattooing you @ladygaga you are a breath of fresh air and truly a magical and inspirational woman!” he wrote, reposting the singer’s picture.
Fans of A Star Is Born may recall that Gaga’s Ally sings the French tune early in the film (spoiler alert!) at the drag bar when rockstar Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) watches her perform for the first time. However, Mother Monster’s link to the song goes beyond the movie. In 2015, she performed the track during her Cheek to Cheek tour with legendary crooner, Tony Bennet.
Cooper, who also directed A Star Is Born, had a deep connection to Gaga’s rendition of the song as well. After he saw the superstar perform “La Vie En Rose” at a fundraiser, he knew he needed her for the film, he revealed to Associated Press.
“She demolished the room,” he told the outlet in October. “I knew that was plutonium.” Gaga’s film version of “La Vie En Rose” is now included in the official ASIB soundtrack.
Let’s not forget about Gaga’s second tattoo. The clever piece of body art shows the notes G A G A on a musical staff on the singer’s forearm. According to her caption, her manager Bobby Campbell got a matching tat.
“G A G A…and when you get a tattoo and you’re me you always have to get two 😂,” the star said of the ink in her caption. Stone was the artist behind this piece, too.
These two tats are the latest of Gaga’s expansive collection of ink, including a “Born This Way” unicorn on her leg, a Tony Bennett trumpet on her arm, a portrait of David Bowie on her side, a mouse above her elbow, and many more, according to Billboard.
